Cleansing v Charging crystals

Cleansing v Charging crystals

Cleansing v Charging crystals

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what charging crystals means. Some say it is the same thing as cleansing, others say that charging is not cleansing.

In my experience charging and cleansing are not the same things.
Cleansing is a way to purify the crystals so as to remove any negativity they may have accrued (See Why cleanse crystals?).

Charging crystals is a way of giving them an energy boost. This is especially needed when crystals have been used in a very difficult healing session, exposed to particular detrimental rituals or have been around negative energies.

Charging without first cleansing is like trying to wind up a clock whose mechanism is full of rust.

That’s why it is important to distinguish between cleansing and charging.

So what exactly is charging?

Charging is essentially helping depleted crystals to regain or to boost their energies. It’s like taking vitamins when you are down with flu or having a big breakfast when you need extra energy to start the day.

There are several ways to charge crystals. Here are some examples – but as with everything that requires particular sensitivity, use the method you think works best for you.

Crystal cluster: crystals are placed on a Quartz or Amethyst cluster and they are left there overnight or until it is sensed that they are fully charged.

Pros: crystals like Quartz and Amethyst are powerful and are able to charge other crystals that are difficult to charge by other means.

Cons: jewellery or soft crystals could be easily scratched by the cluster’s edges and tips.

Moonlight/Sunlight: crystals are placed in moonlight or sunlight. This could be done for days, overnight or as long as you think is right. Some prefer to expose crystals in the sunlight on particular days such as the equinoxes when the light is more intense, or at dawn or dusk when the light is not too intense.

Pros: the Sun and Moon give a particular vibration to crystals.

Cons: some crystals such as Amethyst or Rose Quartz are too delicate to be exposed directly to the sun. Moonlight is a much softer light and so does not alter the colour or aspect of any gemstone. Some crystals could be affected by the damp in the air at night.

Copper pyramid: Place the crystals in a copper pipe pyramid with dimensions relative to the Egyptian pyramids (Giza or Nubian ones are the best). The crystals  are left overnight or until it’s sensed that they are fully charged.

Pros: several crystals could be charged at a time, especially if the pyramid is large.

Cons: none.

Why cleanse crystals?

Why cleanse crystals?

Why cleanse crystals?

Crystals naturally vibrate and these vibrations are their healing properties.  Crystals,  despite their hardness, can also absorb energies and can be affected by negative or unwanted ones that prevent them vibrating at their full potential.   This phenomenon is not visible but it is translated into small alterations to their microstructures.

When we buy crystals we are not aware of the intentions of the people who had them before us. For example, we might not know if the crystals were mined ethically or if the seller cared about them and the environment in which they were kept, etc.; these factors could have a negative influence on them. Also, when we use crystals to heal they absorb and change their structures during the process.  What is more, once extracted from the ground that’s when periodical crystal cleansing is needed to restore their purity.

To prevent the transmission of potentially negative energies, crystals need to be cleansed so as to cancel these micro-alterations, re-establish their correct alignment and restore their full potential as working instruments.

Why I cleanse crystals

Every time I buy new crystals I cleanse and purify them to give them a fresh start.  I always prefer to let them ‘acclimatise’ to a change of environment, of feelings and moods.  Cleansing therefore represents this process.  When cleansing is complete, I always put my new crystals together with my old ones so that they all ‘welcome’ the new arrival.  When a long time has elapsed since I cleansed my crystals, I like to cleanse all of them together to revive every crystal.

Manifesting with crystals

Manifesting with crystals

Manifesting with crystals

meditation, manifesting with crystals

Manifesting or the law of attraction is choosing what you want in your life and realising it. Since antiquity crystals have been used for attracting health, happiness, love, luck and more; so if you set your goal crystals will be there to help you.

First step: set your goal

This is the easiest part of manifesting with crystals. Choose something you would like to have or to be. Always wish for something that is for your highest good. Set possible, tangible objectives: remember that the power of your thoughts influences your life and the lives of people around you. So asking something for your highest good shouldn’t be detrimental to someone else. Even the law of attraction is second to the laws of karma! Also, remember to set one goal at a time as otherwise you won’t be able to focus properly.

Choose your crystal

Looking for love? Emerald, Moonstone or Amber are the crystals for you. Need more luck in life? Chalcedony, Jet or Opal can help. Are you in pursuit of more wealth? Staurolite, Mother-of-pearl or Jade are what you want. There’s a crystal to help you with everything. Looking for an all-purpose crystal? I would recommend quartz. Clear quartz is a very useful crystal that facilitates concentration and mental power so it will be really useful for manifesting.

Meditate to manifest

Look for a quiet spot where you will not be disturbed. Lie down and place your helping crystal on your forehead, breathe deeply and empty your mind of any thoughts. Once your mind is clear, visualise your goal. Think that it is tangible, that you are doing it or possessing it. Feel that the objective is part of you and you are concretely using it. Focus on the crystal and have only positive thoughts about your goal. Meditate in this way for two to three minutes every day. Don’t forget to cleanse your crystal before starting the very first meditation or to de-programme the crystal if you are using it with a specific programme. After the meditation, try not to think about your goal for the rest of the day. You need to focus on it only once a day.

Once the objective has been realised, don’t forget to thank the universe for the special gift you have received. Cleanse your crystal and thank it for the help given.

Crystal meditation

Crystal meditation

Crystal meditation

What is meditation?

Meditation is the act of focusing awareness to attain mental clarity and inner calm.
This can be achieved by focusing on a particular thought, emotion, or object, or trying to silence the mind’s background noise to concentrate on the inner self.
Some people find it hard to meditate but concentrating on a familiar object can give the process a sense of purpose. Meditating with crystals, however, is different because they can help not only provide focus, they can offer insights and healing too.

Crystals to the rescue

If you’re feeling out of sorts and stressed, here’s a simple Crystal Meditation to start with:

  • sit somewhere quiet with your feet touching the ground – remove your shoes, if possible.
  • hold a grounding crystal in your hands (Smoky Quartz, Onyx or Black Tourmaline work well here) and if the crystal has a natural point, direct it towards your feet or the ground.
  • close your eyes and breathe gently through your nose. Try to focus on the crystal.
  • visualise the accumulated stress moving gently from you body to your arms, then to your hands and finally to the crystal. Once the stress has reached the crystal, visualise it leaving and going to the ground.
  • Stay in this state until you feel the stress has gone or as long as you like.
  • When you finish, don’t forget to cleanse your crystal to remove the unwanted energy.

Crystals can also be used to heal the chakras. Choose a crystal whose colour resonates with one of the seven main chakras (crown – violet or white, third eye – indigo or deep blue, throat – blue, heart – pink or green, solar plexus – yellow, sacral – orange, and root – red) and place it directly on that part of the body (for this it’s better to be lying down) without holding it. Breathe gently through the nose for a few moments. Remain like this until you feel lighter in the area concerned.

Connection and insights

Some crystals, such as Clear Quartz or Amethyst, can help when you need inspiration, deeper concentration, insights or to tune in to your psychic abilities.
For this, place a crystal with its termination pointing upwards on your third eye chakra and a grounding crystal at your root chakra.  Breathe gently through the nose and let yourself go into a state of relaxation. It’s then that you will obtain a deeper connection to your Higher Self and the crystal.  When you feel you have this connection, gently ask your question or make your request.  Allow some time for the answer to come.
Afterwards, write down your answers and feelings if you feel you need to;  they might turn out useful in the future when you want to revisit the answer.

Crystal are also able to confer particular qualities.  Try the previous meditation and instead of using clear Quartz on the third eye chakra, use a crystal that helps attain what you’re looking for.  For example Aquamarine can give you courage and make you more tolerant; Onyx can help with strength and confidence; Sunstone – happiness and mood-lift, and Selenite can assist you contact the angels or your spiritual guides.

Hidden gifts

Some crystals, especially certain Quartzes, have hidden gifts that can be unlocked only during meditation with them.  These crystals are called Lemurian and Record Keepers, because it is believed that the Lemurian and Atlantean civilisation locked the secrets of their past in them. These crystals have special etchings or small triangles on their faces that act as locks.  Only meditating deeply with these crystals will unveil their secrets.

To conclude…

If meditation offers you a better perspective of yourself, bringing calm and inner balance, Crystal Meditation can help you go a step further. Crystals can help you balance body, mind and spirit, and they can also reveal their gifts to those who seek them out.

Remember: use only cleansed crystals before any meditation!

Cleansing crystals

Cleansing crystals

Cleansing crystals

Cleansing crystals
Cleansing crystals is a personal thing and with this I mean you have to pick the method that works best for you.
I used to cleanse my crystals in water and sea salt. First I wash them thoroughly then I put them in a glass container filled with water till the crystals are covered. I then add a good pinch of sea salt. I place my crystals in water and salt in the sunlight and moonlight as much as I can because I feel they get double benefit from the liquid and the light. Water and salt was my favourite cleansing method since I started collecting crystals and I always felt that it was the right one for me. However, it never occurred to me that I could cleanse my crystals with sound, smudging, rice and so on. And what about delicate crystals?

Which method of cleansing crystals is best?

I explained in my previous blog Why cleanse crystals the importance of keeping your crystals cleansed, but which method to choose is personal because you need to ‘feel’ your intention to cleansing them. Please bear in mind when you cleanse or charge crystals: where in the Mohs scale your crystal belongs to, water tolerance and sunlight or strong light tolerance.

Here are some examples:

Sound: the high-pitched sound of a bell, a tuning fork, a gong or a singing bowl is ideal to neutralise negativity in the environment and can tune crystals, clearing any unwanted energies they may have accumulated. The vibration is to be repeated till you feel the crystals are cleansed.
Pros: although nearly everything that can be hit makes a sound, it is our intention that stimulates the cleansing process. This kind of cleansing is both practical and portable, can be done anytime and does not depend on external factors such as weather, environment or location.
Cons: if crystals are to be carried for a healing session it would be cumbersome to carry large instruments
for cleansing as well. Better consider a tuning fork, a bell or a singing bowl.

Water cleansing: putting crystals in running natural water e.g. a river or a spring, will revitalise them. When it is sensed that the negativity has gone then the crystals can be put in the sun to absorb fresh energy. This should fully clean them. If a natural source of water is not available, water from the tap will do. A mesh or a container that allows water in to keep the crystals together is recommended.
Pros: Crystals love water, especially quartzes.
Cons: some crystals with low Mohs scale grade such as selenite, or water intolerant types such as turquoise or fluorite can discolour, melt or disintegrate in water!

Sage cleansing or smudging: the crystals are exposed to smoke from dry sage leaves, an incense stick, a burner or palo santo till it is sensed they are fully cleansed. Usually aromatic herbs like sage, woods such as cedar or resins such as frankincense or benzoin are well known for their purifying qualities and so are the best to cleanse crystals as well. Pros: incense sticks are relatively cheap to buy. Cons: this technique needs to be carried out in a well ventilated place to avoid saturating the air. Some people could be particularly sensitive to strong smells and may even be allergic.

Crystal Healing London programming crystals

How to programme crystals

Programming crystals could be done using a passive or an active method.
Both methods lead to the same objective: asking crystals to help us with a specific task or need.

Passive programming

When a crystal is used repetitively while we do something or is exposed regularly to something we are programming it passively.
Passive programming happens when a crystal is exposed to a colour, a plant, a piece of music or a picture or used when taking care of places, animals or people. This also happens when exposing it to a written affirmation . The crystal will habituate itself to this repetitive action and help to recreate the energy, the atmosphere. Crystals also facilitate the actions we are making or help with a written wish.

This method does not involve human interaction very much: we do not ask directly.
Unfortunately this could also mislead the crystal: if we habitually perform something wrongly, unconsciously make mistakes repeatedly, assuming that all is well, the crystal will facilitate the mistakes because it is passively programmed like that.
On the other hand it is important to consider that this programming method is less intrusive because we do not programme our will directly. It is also longer lasting because the crystal will repeat the programme as a habit.

Active programming

The active method involves asking the crystal directly to help us. Please use only cleansed crystals for this! Taking the crystal in our hand and stare at it, rub the thumb of our dominant hand on its surface or one of faces, or put the crystal on our third eye area and – concentrating intensely on it- we ask for help or we say aloud the decree that contains our request. It is important that this should be done with a positive attitude and that what we wish is for the greater good. The process may need to be repeated so that the crystal has the opportunity to become accustomed to this new process.

This method is possibly the most successful because it addresses directly what our needs are. One of the most common programmes is self-cleansing: once the crystals are cleansed they are programmed to self-clean. This is often used with crystals used in jewellery. The benefit of this is that we we do not need to clean our crystals so often. On the other hand, I believe that once in a while everything needs a spring clean.

...and finally

It is extremely important to understand the crystal before programming: it could have been programmed earlier and refuse any other programme. What is more, we need to feel that the crystal has accepted our request and is working according to its abilities and qualities (colour, family, geological nature and innate capacities). Once the crystal accepts the programme it will open its structure to receive it. Then we need to ask the crystal to close its structure and keep the programme within.

Once our request has been realised, the crystal needs to be de-programmed.  Taking the crystal in our hand and stare at it, rub the thumb of our dominant hand on its surface or one of faces, or put the crystal on our third eye area and – concentrating intensely on it- we ask to release the crystal from any programme.
